Scholarship Introduction:
The Summer Research Fellowship will pay a stipend of $5,000 for the period June 1 – August 31, 2011, plus summer tuition and mandatory fees. Preference will be given to students who did not receive an award last year.

Eligibility for scholarship:
- Awardees must have successfully completed the preliminary exam by the end of the Spring 2011 semester.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in either the Humanities or Social Science program at Duke.
- Awardees will be selected from students who have completed 3, 4, 5, or 6 years of graduate study at Duke.
- Students who have completed less than 3 years, or more than 6 years, should not apply.

How to apply:
- One copy of the following original documentation should be given to your DGS assistant.
- Completed cover sheet (see the following page)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Full description of the research project, which should demonstrate a clear grasp of the dissertation topic and make a compelling case for the difference that the summer fellowship may make in the timely completion of this project, as well as some sense of the schedule for drafts of individual pieces of the dissertation and anticipated date of final completion- not to exceed three (3) pages
- Formatting should be 1” margins, 1.5 line spacing, Arial 10 point font. Should you choose to include a bibliography, it will not be included in the page count, but should not exceed one (1) page.
